I have just installed windows98 on an old pc and when I go to shutdown, it goes as far as "windows is shutting down" then hangs. I have to turn off with the power button.
it is a at format case and m/b so i know i will have to press the power button, but it doesn't get to the "it is now safe to turn off your pc", could it be anything to do with networking or sharing an internet connection?.
If I recall correctly from all those years ago this was a common problem with Windows 98 and I believe Microsoft issued a patch for it. Microsoft are stopping all support for Windows 98 shortly so doubt it will still be available. Just have to get used to the button.
ps to correctly type in MS addresses copy this address http: //support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles /q***/*/**.asp ....take out the spaces between http: and // and articles and /, then replace the stars with the MS article number as click here /q202/6/33.asp
