Windows XP won't start

I am running Windows XP and it gets to the windows screen on start up and keeps resetting itself every time. I have tried everything I can think of -using F5 and use the last known good configuartion but nothing works. I finally got this message though:

Stop:c0000135 (Unable to locate component) This applicatioin has failed to start beacuse msvcrt.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Can anyone help I can't even get on to the computer to try and solve the problem???!!
