Is it possible to get the XP Home Edition upgrade via the student / teacher discount scheme?

Note: Home edition is not available but Pro is better anyway!

I wondered if an one could help,

I've got a small network (three computers) all connected using Windows XP. What I want to do is to use an Excel file on two computers at the same time and then the changes from both of the users get applied on the file. The problem that I have come across is that you can't access the file on both computers at the same time (it wants the computer that opened it lasted to created a read-only file). I have been pointed in the direction of Microsoft Exchange and a server, but have limited knowledge of Microsoft Exchange.

So if this is the only option or if there are cheaper options could you please advise.
