Windows XP - Startup problems - gobbledegook font

  Si258 11:16 01 Jul 2004

I recently installed XP Pro SP1. When the system restarted, it would not boot. I got a blue screen with "PAGED_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" and the item causing he problem was WIN32K.sys.

I managed to boot using a rescue disk and windows now starts, but all the writing is in symbols and I can't read anything! I managed to navigate my way to System Restore and restored to a point prior to SP1 installation, but the font is still gobbledegook.Even when I open some applications, the writing is in symbols instead of letters.

Apart from navigating my way blind to re-installing XP, are there any other ideas?

have you tried re-booting, while tapping f8, and then try "last known good configuration".?

Yes, I tried that, but it re-started exactly the same as before.
