Windows XP Startup Hangs

  femural 11:42 01 Jun 2004

When starting up my pc the XP start up screen appears and then the screen goes blank eventually the mouse cursor appears but nothing else (after about 20 mins) if I start in safe mode everything seems to work fine and if I look in device manager everything seems ok, does anyone know of a way I can create a log or something similar to enable me to find what is causing the system to hang?

Start the PC in safe mode and disable everything in the start up folder. Run - msconfig -startup and untick every thing.

If windows loads normally then one of those programmes is causing a problem.

Gareth have you tried starting in safe mode (press the F8 key when booting)then look in device manager (driver probs don't always show though!) my problem was a device driver problem it took an absolute age to get to the bottom of it!
