Windows XP Standby mode

  the hick 21:11 09 Sep 2009

On my PC, I have only recently taken to trying to use the Standby mode, when I shall be back on it shortly. However, the PC immediately starts again, without any prompt from me. Is there something wrong in the Settings somewhere? Any advice much appreciated.

Far better to use Hibernate than Standby - Hibernate Saves all your settings etc before closing down whereas, with Standby, a power cut or similar problem can result in lost or corrupted data.

It could be a BIOS setting. In my Asus BIOS it's:

Suspend Mode = S3
ACPI 2.0 Support = Disabled
ACPI APIC Support = Enabled

They may be called something different in your BIOS. If I don't have those settings (particularly S3) then it either doesn't go into Standby or restarts almost immediately. I'm not 100% sure but I think your PSU has to support a suspend mode too.
