Windows XP Restore without reformating hard drive

  Ferndale 19:46 16 Sep 2003

On a new PC with windows XP preinstalled and only restore CD's supplied with the computer.
Is it possible to use the restore CD's to reinstall XP without completely reformating the hard drive

It depends on the type of recovery disk. Your instructions should tell you. On mine (Evesham) I can use it to "repair" XP (which will not reformat - just replaces system files without loss of data) or I can "reinstall" which will reformat and reinstall XP.
