My father has recently purchased a new laptop and when filling out the registration with his details, he has missed off a letter from his surname by mistake.

Is there anyway of correcting /updating this?

Are you talking about on the laptop, or via a registration card to Microsoft?

Registration from Laptop.

It's a simple registry hack! Having said that, traet ANY registry change with a good deal of caution. If I were you, I'd back up the registry first, so you could always return to the original.

click here for the answer, but be VERY careful to follow the advice precisely.

There's another way of changing the registered owner's name, but you need RegScrubXP installed for it.
If you have, then click on the RegScrub icon and when the page comes up have a look at the buttons along the top and click on 'Misc'. Halfway down you'll find what you want.
