Windows XP Pro - Product Key

I am hoping that someone will be able to help me here. I have a laptop (Compaq) which came with Windows XP Professional pre-installed. It also came with the following CDs:-

Compaq QuickRestore Application Recovery CD
Compaq QuickRestore System Recovery CD
Compaq Operating System CD

all of them have Microsoft Windows XP Professional underneath the above titles.

Now, on the underside of the laptop is the Certificate of Authenticity sticker with the product key. However, I have noticed that it says:-

"Windows XP Professional 1 - 2 CPU"

Does this mean that I can use this product key and Windows XP Professional on my desktop machine (in the process of upgrading so would love to save the money instead of buying another copy of Windows XP).

All help appreciated.

No - it means that the version of XP will run on a PC which has two CPUs - it's the same on Win2k versions.

Simple answer no.

XP, for home users, can only be put on one machine at a time.

The compaq XP disk will be tied to just a compaq machine. It will have a code ( tattoo ) that has to matched on the hard drive before it can be used.

Cheers for the speedy response. I thought it might be the case but I couldn't find anything on the Microsoft site to explain.
