Windows XP Pro problem

Can anyone help with this please.
I run Windows XP Pro and it has just crashed in the following way.

It refused to progress beyond the windows splash screen and would not load into safe mode no matter which way I tried (I could acess the options). The rescue programme Drive Image will not recognise my floppy boot disc although 'A' is the first boot option in BIOS.The system has now gone into a phase where it boots up to the first screen then switches itself off and reboots. This is a permanent cycle.

A screen appeared briefly which said something to the effect that the system was protecting itself and showed a fault reference that was a long series of 00000000s . This disappeared before I had a chance to read it. But the word ‘unmountable’ was in there somewhere.

I am unable to access my installation disc as it is at my daughter’s who is on holiday.

Any offers please
