How does One repair missing window files when one does not get a reinstallation disk with windows when purchasing a laptop. Is there a way around this. Can I use another xp cd as a subsitute so that the relevent files can be extracted to repair any missing files. I am trying to run SFC/scannow and finding that there are files missing but I was not given a xp cd when i purchase my laptop.

You should be able to use any Windows XP CD.

Please note the space sfc /scannow.

Best way Is to make a Image of the Drive with Ghost or Acronis True Image when it is working OK. Also you could try System Restore if it as only just happend
