Windows XP key activation

Hi everyone, I recently install windows XP on one of my pc's and each time I try to activate the key I get a blue screen stating "A problem has been detected, windows has shut down to prevent damage IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_ your BIOS may need updating please check with your computer vendor"
Now correct me if I am wrong but messing around with the BIOS can actuall cause more problems. Should I really be doing this. BIOS may not be the problem any other suggestions as to why I keep getting this screen. Windows Xp also updated service pack 2 this morning and as soon as I click the anti virus icon on the task bar the screen went blue again telling me windows has shut down. I thought Windows XP was more stable? What happends if you don't activate windows? does it make your computer redundent? Can I still use windows as normal? Windows Xp is new to me, maybe someone can share some light to all this niggling issues. Thank you.

Incompatible hardware, dodgy device driver or wrong type of disc utility. Can you post the rest of the code contained in the message, also the name of the device causing the problem should be given towards the bottom of the screen. Should have a .sys extention.

how much memory do you have on your PC? its more like a hardware problem than anything else...and going into the BIOS wont cause more will help you to identify problems if anything...but I would check all the hardware especially the memory...I know my mother-in-law had something like this but it wasnt to do with activating windows it was cos she got hacked and I ended up swapping motherboard and hard drive to begin with...then I changed the memory and all was OK.

Ok the responce I get each time is slightly different depending on what I am trying to do. Today I installed a game for my daughter and just as it was about to load the game, It came up with a blue screen and the message at the bottom says *** STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005,0X3A891174,OXF9695764,0X00000000)I hope this helps.

Today I tried to reactivate my window XP key again and it came up with a message PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and at the bottom under Technical fault it says ***STOP: 0x00000050(0x8B240489,0x00000000,0x8B240489,0x00000000
Does anyone knows what its trying to say?

I have a 900AMD processor with 196MB RAM with NVIDIA 32mb Graphic card. Appreciate any positif feedback. Thank you.
