I am trying to install windows XP on a new drive. My computer will not restart after the first install restart, so I can't go any further with the installation. Any suggestions, please?

Try the install again.

If you are using two memory modules remove one of them and just use the one.

Also is your computer's hardware compatiable with XP?

All hardware is compatible. All I've changed is the hard drive. Only using one memory module. Have tried the install 6/7 times. Thanks for your response.

Try and press the reset/restart button on your computer. Whay happens when it starts up?

More details please, exact specs and configuration details?

When I press start/reset, it goes into install again. There is no change to the Windows graphic screen. All I can do then is reinstall. But this just takes me back to not restarting after the first restart

Jeez- Athlon 1300, 256 ram, 40 gb hard drive, 32mb NVidia, Netgear 10/100 network card, cd rewriter, onbrd sound card. No peripherals connect at present, only monitor, keybrd and mouse.

If all you have done is replaced the hard drive. Then it's possible that you "nudged" one of the components. I suspect the RAM...
