Is it possible to install Windows XP Home Edition over the top of Windows 98se or do I have to remove 98 first?

Basic instructions greatly appreciated.

Is your XP a full or upgrade version?

You can upgrade it, so yes its possible. You can also uninstall it and revert back to 98 if you wanted to.

"It's an upgrade Windows XP Home edition".

You can therefore do either.

If you choose to do a clean install you will need the W98 disk handy to show you have a legit copy to upgrade from.

It is protocol to post everything on the thread and not to respond by the e mail. This way everyone benefits from the information.

Just start the install process from the XP disk, and it will prompt you through the whole process of do you want to remove 98 or install XP alongside as a dual boot, etc. Even though it's only an upgrade version, you have to click on "New installation" (I think that's the prompt) to get all the options.

You may not need your 98 disk if XP can get the relevant info from the installed copy of 98.
