Windows XP hangs at desktop

  bugsy47 12:18 09 Feb 2007

Can anyone please help?
I have a PC which powers up to the user window fine and when the user icon is clicked, enters the desktop but the cursor just has a timer showing and hangs.

Now for the strange bit. If soon as the desktop appears, Ctrl alt del are pressed the task manager window appears and the machine boots up OK.

Any suggestions as I am stumped.

Try starting with the Shift key held down, come back with results

My guess is it' a Driver Problem

Can you get into Safe Mode? by keep pressing F8 as it starts then from list press Safe Mode.

I have tried to use safe mode,I can see the drivers loading and then the screen goes blank and it just sits there in that state.

Its now taken a turn for the worse. It even hangs when ctrl alt del are pressed. I can't get into windows at all now.

As to your first post. If you can get into Windows. have you tried Restore back to before the Problem? also check Event Viewer
