Windows XP & Excel

We purchased a pc last summer and it had windows xp installed. At work we use excel alot and would like this added. Are we best to purchase this as a separate package or as part of another? Any ideas on the best place to obtain it?

Neither of us are very 'techy' which is why we are asking. The spreadsheet in Windows XP is not as good as excel, which we use on another pc.

Windows XP does not have a spreadsheet of it's own. If you do have one installed, it's from an instaalled application (Works? - possibly).

You can buy Excel on it's own - or better, as part of MS Office - then you also get Word, Outlook and other software.

Or better still, you could get Star Office, which has an Excel "look-alike" and compatible Spreadsheet - and other modules, at a much lower price.

would be to buy Excel 2000 as a standalone which, although not the latest version (2002) will be pretty much the same, and will only cost £79 (as opposed to £280 for Excel 2002).

You can buy Excel 2000 from

Alternatively, you might consider buying the whole Office XP suite, which includes Excel 2002, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook for £305.00 which is only £25 more than Excel 2002 as a standalone.

If you guy's have children, you will be able to get the educational version of MS OFFICE, you will be able to save a considerable amount of money.

If you're a student or a teacher you can buy the latest version of Microsoft Office at a big discount (£100 approx)- the caveat is you can't upgrade to a later version.
