Windows xp defrag problem.

One of my freinds defrags his hard drive every day, it takes normally about 5 minutes. Recently when he tried to defrag again, it took 10 seconds and the analysis bar showed a big red pacth (Fragemented files) after defragmentation. I told him to defrag in safe mode but nothing changed. I have never heard or seen anything like this before. Any suggestions?

you could try running chkdsk to make sure all is okay with the HDD...

Go to start, run and then type chkdsk /f - it'll run when you reboot the computer.

Thanks, will tell him to do that.
