MY pc spec is as follows:
AMD Athlon XP 1900+ Processor
ECS K7VZA(VERSION 3) Motherboard
MSI GFORCE FX 5600 Graphics card
Creative Soundblaster Audigy
80 gig hard drive

everytime I try to install a game on windows xp,my system restarts at about 30 % of the installation, and when it restarts,i have trouble getting back into windows.
im using all the latest drivers for my hardware, ive updated the bios for my motherboard,
and ive installed all the latest updates from microsoft/windows update.
Ive used CHKDSK from the recovery console too.

id just like to add to anyone that can help that im running xp home edition (legal copy) as an upgrade from windows 98 1st edition.....i did have my pc dual booting with win 98 on one partition, and xp on the other.....but after perchasing a new soundblaster audigy sound card,i found that it had no support for windows 98 1st edition,i reformatted my hard drive, installed win 98,then installed xp as an upgrade over the top.
I found the crashes were not as frequent on win 98.....infact,the pc would not restart itself, just hang or freeze.
ive checked my processor temp in the bios, and ive never seen it more than 39
