Windows XP CD Recording

Whenever I try to use the Windows XP CD Recording program, I get the message "Please insert a writeable disc" even although I already have.
If I go to My Computer-Drive D - right click - Properties and go to the Recording Tab, it shows the drive as already enabled for CD recording. If I de-select and re select this then it works fine - once - and next time the same thing happens.
Hasn't always done so, but why?

Have you tried a Laser Cleaning disc in the drive, might just need a clean-up.

Looks like a registry issue;run ccleaner and reboot click here

Might just do the job.

Yes, actually I did so recently.
Drive writes happily using NERO software, its the in-built XP software I have endless troubles with.
Is it just a case that the XP Recording software is useless?

try going into services.msc and change imapi cd service to automatic, see if that helps at all

Hmm, try skidzy's suggestion, though could be fussy XP software.
