Windows XP boot up error

I get an error message when I boot up my Laptop:

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Unfortunately I cannot repair this file using the recovery console because my CD-ROM is damaged. I do however have Ubuntu installed on this Laptop and have access to all drives and folders. Is there another way around it?
