Kind members of this forum tried to assist with my nerp problems but still no luck. I am on my third fresh in stall of windows and am now wondering if it is a bios problem !

Fresh install of windows xp from hp supplied disc.
Everything okay so far, try to install nero or deepburn and everything goes pear shaped. Freezing, slow mouse, freezing of nero or deep burn...
Bios
Main
First channel device O Maxtor HD
First channel device 1 None
Second channel device 0 None
Second channel device 1 None
Third channel device 0 DVD writer
Third channel device 1 DVD rom

Also no response from DVD writer which is in fact only a cd writer. No opening of tray or anything else. DVD rom works okay.

Any ideas at all please.

Thanks in hope

Have you installed the motherboard drivers before installing any software.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Sounds like the motherboard is missing it's chipset drivers. Do you have a disk that came with the pc or motherboard? If not you may have to download them from the HP support site via another pc.

I'll look in to the HP site or should it be the asus site !

Hello

I think I'll need help here. Hp & asus sites do not seem a lot of help - motherboard is asus PTGD1-LA and it seems according to google that lots of people have trouble finding the drivers.
Are motherboard drivers installed before os !

Thanks

OS installed first, mobo drivers next. I'll have a look around.

What's the exact HP model number / spec??

Looks like plenty to try, including one for an HP DVD.

or back a page and let it auto detect your pc

Also read their avvice on how to download and install.

Good luck

Try the 'fall 2004 original chipset driver collection' first
