Windows XP - any way to control login time?

  follies 18:16 13 Sep 2003

Does anybody know if there's a way to control login time at an individual account level in XP? We would like to limit the amount of time our daughter spends online each day (for example, 2 hours per day). AOL allows something like this, but she spends most of her time using Instant Messenger where limits do not apply.

If you have set up your daughter with her own user account when she logs on to the computer then you can set a time in her profile under Sessions. You can either set it to disconnect from session or end session.

click here This utility 'AMP WinOFF' will let you set the time for the computer to go off and you can set a password so that the little darling cannot exit the AMP WinOFF programme by herself

make sure she has her own account.

Make sure you log in as administrator, not someone who has admin rights.

say for example her name is testuser

got to start - run then type CMD

type the following

net user testuser /time:M-F,5pm-9pm; Sa,6am-9pm;Su,6am-9pm

it is all one line EXACTLY like above

it means monday to friday 5 till 9 and so on.

if you typed

net user testuser / time:all

means no expiry time

Some more examples

net user testuser /time:M-F,08:00-17:00

net user testuser /time:M-F,8am - 5pm

net user testuser /time:M,4am-5pm;T,1pm-3pm;W-F,8:00-17:00

all on one line

hope it helps

Thanks for all responses - what I was looking for was something to control the amount of time per day, rather than specific times that the user could be logged on. For example - is there a way to set a 2 hour online time limit per day??
