hi there my daughter has a note book with xp home pre installed and I would like to change to dual boot with 98se as some of her software won't run right. I have partition magic 5.0 I don't think it will work with xp. I think 98se has to be installed first then xp is this correct and where can I get boot magic or simmilar. many thanks.

You do not need boot magic or any third party program to do this.

However this is the way i would do it. Create two partitons using FDISK (98 boot floppy).

Install 98 onto the first partiton and then install XP onto the next. XP will see that there is 98 and will make a few changes when it installs.

Once you have installed XP and restart your computer you will be given the option to boot into 98 or XP.

If you wish to share files between OS's make sure the file system is FAT32 and not NTFS that XP allows.

Oh the above means formatting the whole drive so any files etc will be gone and a reinstall of programs will be need.

So important stuff will have to be backed up first.
