i have all the legitimate disks and so on, and just need a quick guide so i don't ruin things.

Cheers in advance,

sorry, i faled to specify my version. I am using windows xp professional, and the process given failed to work. When i try to reboot from the disk,(cd), my computer shuts down.

Any ideas?

edit: it doesn't even get onto the 'hit any key to reinstall' part, it just loads the ram up, where you can enter bios, and then shuts down.

Mobo failure?

  mattyc_92 17:26 12 Jun 2006

Sounds like a hardware failure

Have you setup the BIOS correctly (correct boot-order?)?

I recently had a very similar experience and it turned out to be memory failure.

This sound like overheating check the CPU fan is working

my computer fans are working, and i presumed it was overheating, but i am not sure. Is there any way i can just totally start from fresh easily?

it's driving me round the bend

How many sticks of RAM have you got?

  Edward-207256 18:45 15 Jun 2006

not sure, but i have 1 gig of memory. Could be 2 512 sticks or 1 1024, not sure.
