I recently bought an advent computer from pc world which had windows xp on. I was told by a friend that microsoft office 2000 was not compatable with xp. However I did try to install office 2000 and my pc crashed, I tried to uninstall office 2000 but the pc crashed again. I decided to use the system recovery disc that i received with my computer but the computer kept crashing. When I rang advent they said it sounded like a hard drive fault and to take it back to pc world and get a replacement which I have since done. Can anyone tell me if office 2000 is compatable with xp before I try and install it again on the computer I have now.

I bought XP Pro six months ago and upgraded my desktop from Win98. Had no problems with Office2000 and other s/w already loaded under Win98. But now both this and my laptop (XP Home), can have bother loading additional s/w dated before XP became popular.
You need a later version of Office2000.

I have since discovered that it wasn't microsoft office that made my computer crash.
I am now on my 2nd Advent computer after the first one being returned. I am still having trouble with the computer crashing, pressing Ctrl Alt Del does nothing and I have to turn the computer off at the power. I can't play any games at all without it crashing and it has even crashed when I have created documents. I have done a system restore but to no avail. Advent have told me to return the computer to pc world and get another one but I feel inclined not to
pick an advent again.

I've seen everything from Office 97 to 2002(XP) running on Windows XP.

I would certainly pick another make. If you got 2 defective out of 2, the chances of getting a faulty one must be very high.

I have NO problems whatsoever with Office 2000 on Windows XP home. I have also downloaded the upgrade again with no problem.

Why not ask a local shop to build a computer for you??

i agree. these "all ready built" pc's seem to have a reputation of crashing, failing, and being un-upgradable.

best to have one built from your local pc shop made with good quality parts.
