  crespo 18:03 17 Dec 2010

Hi there.

Windows Vista has started playing up and won't start normally.I have to use the "Windows attempting repairs" and then the System Restore to get Windows fired up normally.

I have had absolutely no problemss with my HP laptop and it's been working just fine.Even when i use System Restore, my laptop works ok.It's just annoying that i have to got through this routine to get started.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Every time?

BAck everything up to an external source, your hard drive may be failing.

Have you looked in device manager to make sure your drivers are all up to date.

As Fruit Bat /\0/\, backup everything first.
Type msconfig in search box and click on it in the list.
Under 'general' tab check the dot in the radio button is for 'normal startup'. If not then dot it and select apply.

Do you briefly get a BSOD too just before you get the repair function?
As my problem is exactly the same as yours & I too need help. So if anyone can help post solutions I'd be greatful too.

You should really start your own thread on your problem so that you, not crespo get notification of replies.

Auto-reboot disable:
When Running windows and it crashes you will get a blue screen and it will automatically restart, often it will restart too fast for you to see the error message.
To disable auto restart on system failure, so you can see the error message.

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"

You're hijacking the thread but my next advice was to check the HDD.
Start, computer, right click the drive and select properties.
Tools tab and select 'This option will check the volume for errors' Click on 'check now ' tab.
Be very aware if the hard drive is failing then this will be the final nail in the 'coffin' unless it passes.
Same will happen on a failing HDD if you defrag it.

This thread is now locked and can not be replied to.
