Windows Won't Shut Down

  Cybercrow 15:54 11 Feb 2004

Recently, whenever i ask my pc to shut down, it starts to shut down and then the screen is filled with a message:

'Windows 98 Shutting Down'.

However, it just stays like this for ages, until i press re-boot.

(It started happening after i had downloaded some microsoft up-dates!).

Can't remember too much about Win98 but suspect something to do with power options / ACPI not switching off properly.

Have a play with power settings or read this click here

goto start menu/run, type msconfig.exe in the dialog box, when it loads click the `advanced` button, and tick the "disable fast shutdown` box. other than that, a full scandisk of your hard drive for errors

Have you installed the 'Shutdown patch 4756US8.EXE'

There are several notes on this problem on the MS site :-- 'Problems Shutting Down Windows 98 Second Edition' from Here :: click here;en-us;238096
