Windows Vista will NOT start up, just shuts down.

Hi, Can anyone help please. I have my mates Laptop which is a Toshiba and about 6 months old running Windows Vista. Basically it will not load up Windows, it just gets to a blue screen that quickly goes away and just shuts down, all it says is STOP and entry point not found, it also mentions dynamice link library hal.dll?. and there is some other writing below but it disappears quickly. I have tried to boot into safe mode and it's just the same it shuts down, not even a system restore will fix the problem.

Also tried last known good configuration, that won't work either and tried a start up repair using the system recovery options but that won't work either.

Anyone out there with any ideas please, any help is much appreciated.

As it's only six months old it should be still under warranty. Contact the seller for help.
