OEM versions, in theory, can only be supplied with a new computer. However, many retailers will supply an OEM version with new hardware.

The licence is tied specifically to that machine. In other words, it cannot be transferred from computer to computer.

It may not load on to a machine that already has an operating system installed. OEM versions are intended for new builds only. You could, of course, install it on a new hard drive which I, if it were me, would do anyway - start with a clean system rather than patch up something that my be far from ideal. You can then install your old drive as a slave, collect all useful files and data (not programs) and reformat the old drive for re-use.

Make sure your computer can handle Vista before installing.

"Make sure your computer can handle Vista before installing."

I agree. I've seen a couple of copies for sale by folk locally. The sellers stating that their systems would not run vista.
