my laptop runs windows vista & has 2gb ram-can I reset the windows task manager to give a better performance.

In what way better performance ? 2 gb ram should be fine, that's what my laptop has.
What's not performing as it should ? Task manager is a tool, I think your thinking of system configuration (msconfig) but don't alter anything without identifying the problem first.

You would do better to increase the amount of RAM that you have. First you need to know how your memory is configured, do you have two single 1Gb sticks or one 2Gb. Either way run this Crucial scanner click here and buy at least one more 2Gb stick from the list that they recommend. You will end up with at least 3Gb.
