What should my windows version number be in the registry?

I am running windows 98.

Windows is telling me that the update is not for my version of windows and won't let me update on windows update.

what update are you trying to get Regards

  dazz10 16:15 03 May 2004

Just the normal windows update. It quickly goes to 100% and freezes!

I took advise from another website to change the version number and now it doesn't work!

When I go onto windows update and click scan for updates it quickly goes to 100% and stays like that!

It doesn't show any updates or show anything else.

I've tried all of those before.

It's the version number in the registry that is wrong!

I thuoght Microsoft had ceased providing support for win98.
Just out of interest what were you trying to achieve in changing it?

I was trying to make windows update work and some one told me to change it!

It's ok now though. Just quickly ran the installation over the top and it seems to be working now. Thanks for your help!
