I have photoshop elements 5 and find that the following procedure works for me.

1.. Get the screen required by pressing the key PrtScr which puts the screen page onto the clipboard.
2.. Open Elements and then click on View and Organise Photos.
3... Click on File
4... Then on New -
5... Then on Blank File
6... Click on OK to accept the page size shown
7... A blank file appears
8... Click on Edit and then Paste

I have been doing the above as I write and it worked OK.

Can you go to File and select New and create a blank page like you can in CS2 and CS3 ?

If yes, then all you have to do is capture your Windows screen by pressing shift and print screen
And then on your open blank sheet press Control and V.
Youll now have your screenshot which you can edit trim crop etc.
Thats assuming you dont have any screen grabber software which i assume you dont.
Cheers.

Use this excellent Screen Capture program to capture any or all of the screen -the captures are automatically saved in your My Pictures folder. You then have easy access to your captures.

Chas49 I didn't have any options in view, every thing was greyed out, element 6 must be a little different but it did work with Click on File
4... Then on New -
5... Then on Blank File
6... Click on OK to accept the page size shown
7... A blank file appears
8... Click on Edit and then Paste,

thanks to everyone for all your help
