Windows protection error

"Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer".

Is there an easy way out of this? I've only been able to resolve it by reverting to an image of my hard drive.

(This has occurred on two occasions when I've switched on the electricity when the PC is without a screen and the PC has, for some unknown reason, decided it wants to switch itself on, and I've been left to try and shut it down, purely imagining what is on the screen. This time I did 2x ctrl-alt-del, forgetting I was at the password screen, not the desktop. Thereafter the protecion error started coming up whenever I tried to start again.)

Hi, you don't say which OS - but if you are using XP then why not try a System Restore to an earlier time before you had any problem.

Technotiger - Thanks. Win98 I'm afraid. Never persuaded that Win XP contained £50 worth of advantages...

OK - sorry I can't help then - but hang-on in there, no doubt someone else can help you.

Cheers, good luck and Happy Easter.
