while trying to start a friends computer I noticed that I can only get so far before it tells me it has had a inproper system shutdown and has to have a restart or use 1 of the following normal, bootlog, safe etc. when I try this it will go so far then it will come up with 'while initializing device ios. windows protection error you need to restart your pc'It then will then not let get a further any ideas anyone. by the way I was thinking of forcing windows ME to reinstall. Is this a good idea or should I use 1 of ME's other utilities instead.

If you can get into Safe Mode, try a system restore.

Safe mode comes up as a option but when you press it it gets so far then 'while initializing device etc, etc.

Then you need to go into the BIOS to select boot from CD drive. Then bung in ME CD and restart. It should reinstall ME over itself in about 45 minutes.
