Windows pc / Linux pc share internet connection?

  keef66 11:12 06 Mar 2007

My second pc is an ageing 900mhz Athlon which is curently running Win 98SE, and shares the internet with a newer XP machine via a wired netgear router. I'm considering installing Linux instead of Win 98SE on the older pc so I can have a play with it. Will internet connection sharing still be possible??

I have done exactly the same thing recently and it works well. Actually, I have set up my 700MHz Athlon as dual boot, 98SE and Kubuntu.

One thing to be aware of is that browsers will probably be slow with the default settings. This relates to IPv6 settings. A quick Google search will explain what needs to be done to disable IPv6.

you should have no problem with using the internet on your old p/c with linux. there is no configuration as it should automatically pick up the router connection

Thanks both for the quick response. I'm off to tinker. No doubt be back for more advice shortly, but I'll tick as resolved for now and start a new thread when the inevitable occurs.
