windows password

hi i have been given an old pc but it reqires a password at the blue screen to log in to windows
but know one can remember the password,
how can i get around this please.
the pc is running windows xp pro.

Just before you get the XP loading bar, start mashing F8 on your keyboard, and select to boot into "safe mode".

Sometimes the administrator account in safe mode isnt passworded, and you can just make yourself a new account from the administrator account here.

If the Administrator in safe mode is passworded, then use Hiren's BootCD

click here

Burn a disk with that image, and boot from it.
In the "Passwords" section, there is a tool called "Active Password Changer". Use that and it will strip out the password from the account.

Before doing that -

At the login screen press Ctrl + Alt and hit Del twice.

This will bring up the old style log in screen

For user type administrator and then hit return. If there is no user password you will be logged on.

If there is then Hirens is a good method.
