when I first open up Windows Internet Explorer I get a message on the top blue bar saying "Windows Internet Explore (not responding)" I then have to click the red cross on the top right of the screen to close the page. The second attempt opens with no problems. Can anyone tell me how I can cure this problem ?

Try Tools.Internet Options.Advanced and press restore advanced settings see if that helps.Or Advanced and press reset. That resets Internet Explorer to its original state.
But first try right clicking Local area connection.[The two screens beside the clock ]and press repair,See if it comes up with a Dns problem.
