Windows Messenger and Firewall

  Green Wing 11:02 23 Oct 2004

I have Windows Messenger 5.0 installed with SP2 and Norton Internet Security 2005. I have noticed that when signed into Windows Messenger, if I check tools/options/connection the box tells me that I am directly connected to the .Net messaging service i.e. with no firewall protection. This is despite having my Norton Personal Firewall switched on. I keep the Windows Firewall switched off when the Personal Firewall is on. I have tried switching off the Personal Firewall and switching on the Windows fireawll instead to see if that makes any difference. It doesn't. Why does Messenger state that there is a direct connection with no firewall? Is it correct to show this and if so, what can I do about it as I do not wish to use instant messaging without a firewall.
