Windows Media Player Triplicate Problem

  U10 17:43 28 Mar 2007

My library of music files in Media Player 10 has each song triplicated. Can anyone (a) tell me how this happened and (b) how I can delete all of the unnecessary duplicates. Many thanks.

I have the same problem but I have two copies of several albums listed in the library. This happened because I had a complete backup copy of my main music files on an external USB drive. When Media player accessed this, it created a second copy in the library index.
Unfortunately I don't know how to get rid of the reference to the second copy either.

it means youve got 3 copies of the mp files on your pc in different locations.
In media plyer right click the track/properties to reveal the locations, you will need to delete 2 of the locations and reindex the library.
