Windows Media Player start up time

My entire CD collection (200+) is on my computer and I use Media Player 11 for playback. The first time I use Media Player it takes at least 30 seconds to start playing and the HD light is flashing. After I have used it for the first time it starts almost straight away even if I close Media Player down and start it up again (without rebooting the PC when it would again take 30 seconds plus). I have been using Vista for the last two years and as I remember it didn't do this under XP. Any ideas?

Many similar problems by other Vista users click here.

Anyway, see if this is any help click here. G

I had noticed that MP 11 was slow to start playing tunes but just accepted it as I was merely using it for background sound whilst doing other things. I tried the tweeks suggested by your 'click here' and now have almost instant play. Thanks.

Thanks for that, a few things to try. Seems I'm not alone. I understand there's a Media Player 12 out but I think it's only for Windows 7.

That's right, v12 is for Win7 only. G
