Windows media player makes cpu go to 100%]

Hi All,

Can anyone shed any light on this problem. Windows media player 11 on XP Home SP2. Athlon xp2800, 2gb ram, geforce 7600 gt garphics.

Since a rebuild on this pc i have noticed when a dvd is played it won't and task manager says cpu @ 100% until i cancel process. I tried rolling back to Ver 10 with no fix.
If you open media player as per normal it runs etc. put a dvd in and it just hangs until process is stopped.

I tried a codec pack (xp 2.34 i think!) still no fix.

Any ideas anyone?
Your ideas are very welcome

never been a big fan of tweaking stuff without fully reviewing the product, TILL i came across this.
I downloaded these drivers uninstalled the ones i have installed these and Whammo!!! i have no idea what or how but they sue as hell make a difference.
I had all sorts of problems with media player and streaming video, both work like a dream now..

worth a try you can always uninstall them...

Thanks for that. Do you think it's codecs?

The problem is on my other pc so i will have a look shortly.

I have the very latest forceware whql driver installed so i am not convinced it's a graphics driver problem.

do you get the same result with different players such as

Thanks guys; it's sorted using k-lite codecs.

I removed previous codec package and put the k lite ones in - all is now well.

Thanks again
