Windows Media Player error

I have media player 10, running on XP. When i select Burn an error message "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

On right hand side message states "No Cd or DVD burner has been detected. Press F5 to refresh the player."

Tried F5 w/o success. CD burner works OK with Nero. Any ideas?

Try click here. Ignore the 'Sign Up to See This Solution' - just scroll down to view the solution. G

Thanks. However tried following the instructions. Downloaded VSO Inspector and CD writer drive seems fine.
Tried the command prompt w/o success. Recently installed a lexmark printer with memory card drives attached, attached via USB cable. Would this have any impact? Do i need to change any settings?

Do you have Nero CD-burning plugin enabled? See click here - it has a tick mark, which is enabled.

Try burning with it enabled, then if no joy, try with it disabled. G

Just had a look at similar problems, & most were fixed by removing/uninstalling the rewriter drive(s) in Device Manager & rebooting. G

Ta Crossbow,
I don't have Nero CD plugin. How do I get this?
Tried removing/uninstalling previously after looking at other problems.

Nero Fast CD-Burning Plug-in can be downloaded from click here. It says it's not compatible with WMP10. I have to admit I've only tried it in WMP9 & it works there. As far as I recall, when installing Nero (off an OEM CD), I chose to install this too.

Also try click here (always take the necessary precautions when editing the Registry).

You may get some more/alternative troubleshooing tips from here click here. Good luck, G

Thanks G,
Registry editor link worked well. the drive is now showing as a recordable device which is wasn't before.

As i have Windows media 10 can I delete this and go back to WMA 9 by downloading from somewhere?
