I am trying to play some educational videos on my W2k computer with WMP9 installed. the application seems to start up all right but it always wants to access the internet and then runs thorugh a search for a codec which it can't find. It then reports that it has an unknown error and directs me to web help. It seems that the error code is C00D11CD.

Any ideas anyone?

Why do I receive an "Unknown error" (C00D11CD)?

Unfortunately, this error usually occurs when another program or operating system component encounters a problem, but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player. Because this generic message can be displayed in a wide variety of circumstances, there is no single solution.

Version 10 is not for W2k only for XP. I have downloaded the most recentverson of 9 but with no success.

Thanks for the link but there is such a bewildering array of codecs that I have not the faintest idea which one I might want. Any further advice would be helpful.

Codecs are a perenial proble, getting the right one is like looking for a needle in the proverbial haystack. Try doing a google search using the word codecs.

find out what kind of file extension the educational videos have, i.e. mpeg, avi, etc and post back.

Does it matter that I am trying to play the videos from the hard drive rather than a CD?

Tycho,

no, it doesn't matter where you are playing them from.
