Windows Mail & Autocomplete

Hi all, when I was running Win98se and OE6,(now running Vista Premium) if I were to create a new email message, the recipients address would automatically complete, I find that my Windows Mail doesn't do this, although the box to do so is checked. If I go to Windows Contacts to find an email contact I get the following message when I ask to send them an email:
"Contacts could not locate an e-mail client that it could invoke. Contacts uses the Simple MAPI protocol to send mail. If your e-mail client provides an option to let it handle Simple MAPI calls please turn on this option from the e-mail client and try again."
I am using Virgin Media ISP.
Could somebody explain what all this means?
