Windows Installer 3.1

  Mike_R 17:32 07 Jul 2007

My grandson loaded Windows Winter Fun Pack 2004 on the family desk top and subsequntly deleted it. I do not know what way he did it, but he left the short-cuts in the program file. Now on every start up Windows Installer 3.1 tries to find Winter Fun etc and eventually gives up after also displaying two XFire screens. I would welcome advice on how to prevent this annoyance.
The OS is Windows XP.

Click on "add remove programmes" and look for an entry for Windows winter fun pack. It sounds to me as though your son has deleted some of the folders or bits of the programme without using it's uninstall utility.

If this fails to do the trick you may have to use a registry editor, but these must be used with the utmost back after trying option 1

Try reinstalling then uninstall again.

I've already gone into "add/remove programs and did not find it. I'll try the other suggestions when I next visit my son's house in a few days time, and report back.
