Windows install on laptop

i have only ever installed windows on a desktop on a new hard drive. i normally boot from floppy with a recovery disk to install CD drivers then load windows from the CD.

i have a compaq evo 600c with a drive bay that can have floppy or DVD.

it errors me with non system disk if I try to boot from the windows CD and i cant boot from the floppy and then change as it doesnt recognise the DVD drive.

i bought it on ebay and dont have any recovery disks, just a version of windows (I have copies of 98, Me and XP Pro)

Help anyone??

Will this install files to the hard disk to allow me to restart with the DVD Rom in place?

No. You restart the computer with the first floppy disk in the drive and follow the prompts.

Sorted it. Created a bootable CD using a floppy image to laod the CD drivers and away you go
