On starting my laptop it keeps running a scan disc but finds no errors. Then windows tries to load but a blue error screen appears for less than a second mentions an error but I am unable to read this page due to the time t is visable? Any ideas please. Thank you

What operating system are you using? Sounds like 98?

XP Pro. I can access the safe mode.

Do a repair install (if you have an XP CD)

Follow the instructions and you won't lose data.

If you have no CD, your laptop may well have a restore partiton...Usually accessed via the BIOS screen, but this WILL cause loss of data.

Only have an Acer eRecovery Management Disc which only offers Restore to factory default which when installed all data in c drive will be overwritten!

That's right, many laptops have this (I have an Aspire) you are in a bit of a spot....Did you install anything that may have caused the BSOD?

If you can start in safe mode, try last known configuration that worked, or a restore point (System restore)

If neither of these work, you may have to resort to the factory restore :(

I did try a system restore but with no success! Thanks 4 ure help anyway.

Try uninstalling any recently installed programmes from control panel (in safe mode)

Also, have you tried the Last known configuration that worked option?
It's in the F8 menu you used to get into safe mode.

Have tried last known configuration which also failed :(

One more thing to try:

Boot into safe mode, and run msconfig.

Untick any suspicious looking startup programmes and try booting again.

Thanks I will try that but I don't think I going to hold my breath! Looks bleak don't you think? :(
