The following message came up today:

Download updates for Windows (R) WDM driver for Realtek AC'97 (ALCXWDM.SYS)

This problem was caused by Windows (R) WDM driver for Realtek AC'97 (ALCXWDM.SYS), which was created by Realtek Semiconductor Corp..

To solve this problem, follow these steps:

1.Go online to the following website:

Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

2. Find Windows 98Gold/98se/Me/2000/XP for Driver only, and then install it.

I assume it refers to the audio driver which appears to be working correctly but I attempted to follow the instructions anyway. I couldn't find 'Windows 98Gold/98se/Me/2000/XP for Driver only'

Does annyone know where this can be found and why it is needed?

Thanks in advance.

Your sound drivers caused a problem with Windows.

They recommend you update your drivers.
Have a look at your motherboard manufacturers web site and download the newer drivers.

If your sound is working Ok just now I would leave it.If you do download it and your sound stops working you can always roll back the driver.
I will not accept any sound driver updates from Microsoft as they always stop any sound on my computer.
