Windows Defrag Tool

Why does the Microsoft Windows defrag utility take so little time to defrag drives where as other software takes much longer to do the job? I am currently using Piriform Defraggler which is clearly going to take considerably longer. Is it doing a far more thorough job than the built in Windows defragger?

Why not use the built in defrag in MS? I have used it for 20 years with no problems.

You never know it's defragging. Works continuously in the background.

The Windows defragger used to be a scaled down version of this. I don't know if it still is.
