Hi I am running windows 7, is it worth me downloading windows defender please?

No, not really but better than no security at all. Avast has a free AV as well as others. Do a search for free AV. As for free antimalware then there's three I'd vouch for, Malwarebytes antimalware, Superantispyware and the new Spybot S&D. If you need the safe links for them please ask.

For a blocker then Spywareblaster.

Windows Defender for W7 isn't much good. Unlike W8 it's anti-spyware only and there are better free products.

Its better than nothing , and I am all for free programs , but when it comes to AV , you get what you pay for . I use Bitdefender , the cost for 2years cover on 3 PCs is less than £50 , that's only £8.33 per PC per year ! Im sure other AV vendors can offer similar deals . If you do decide to purchase , I suggest checking out reviews first , as performance varies greatly .
